In the realm of timeless snacks, few can compete with the ubiquity of popcorn. However, when it comes to choosing a nibble that's not only delicious but also safer and healthier, Like Air steps into the limelight.
Founded in 2020 by Basking Ridge natives and siblings, Steve Atieh and Allison Lin, Like Air Baked Puffcorn is the perfect alternative to traditional popcorn. The sibling duo, armed with backgrounds in finance rather than the food and beverage industry, embarked on a mission to create a snack that marries snackability with health.
Like Air gained significant traction, earning the attention of ABC's Shark Tank. On the upcoming episode airing this Friday, January 19, Steve and Allison will unravel the narrative behind their venture into crafting a healthier and safer popcorn alternative.
Both siblings, joined by their brother Kevin Atieh, who later assumed the role of Like Air's CFO, brought a fresh perspective to snack creation. Lin, inspired by the birth of her first daughter, sought to develop a wholesome and easily accessible snack for children, especially those facing restrictions in various settings. Popcorn, a common choking hazard for children under four, prompted the creation of Like Air, a puffcorn that Lin describes as "kind of melts in your mouth like air."
Unlike other puffed corn snacks in the market, such as the crunchier Pirate's Booty, Like Air offers a unique texture and safety profile, making it suitable for snackers ranging from six months to 106 years old, as Lin fondly notes.
The health-conscious approach of Like Air extends beyond its texture. Unlike competitors that may use unhealthy ingredients like MSG and artificial flavors, Like Air prioritizes natural ingredients. It caters to individuals with dietary restrictions, ensuring a guilt-free snacking experience.
With four delectable flavors—classic (reminiscent of buttered movie-theater popcorn), white cheddar, pancake, and cinnamon bun—each serving of Like Air packs only 50 calories. The sweet flavors are allergen-free and manufactured in a nut-free facility. Additionally, the snack is non-GMO, certified kosher, and gluten-free.
While Like Air initially launched just weeks before the pandemic, limiting its availability to Amazon, the product expanded its reach to physical stores in the summer of 2020. ShopRite became its first retailer in New Jersey, marking a milestone for the Madison-based Like Air as it continues to redefine the snacking landscape.
